How To Start A Successful Ecommerce Website

Starting a successful ecommerce website can be quite easy! It just depends on what products you want to sell! If you sell something popular, you may not have much success, but if you sell something new or with low competition, then that’s where I can show you how to blow that competition out of the water! Let me show you how it’s done:

Step 1: Register a Domain, Get Website Hosting, and Find a Script

First off, you will want to find a great domain from your favorite domain registrar (Your Domain Registration Company Here). Next you will need great website hosting, I recommend using HostMonster.com, they have great service, affordable hosting, and great customer service! Next you will need to get a great script. Here are a few things to consider:

1. If you are selling products you make or sell physically, you will want to get a blank ecommerce script

2. If you are going to be drop shipping, you will want to check with the drop shipping company to see if they have a premade ecommerce script for you!

If your situation relates to number one, then I suggest using Zencart, OS Commerce, or Cubecart. Personally, I prefer using Zencart, there are more options when relating to templates, and they also have a free gadget that I will talk about more later, it’s the Froogle Data Feed Manager.

However, if your situation relates to number two, then you will want to check with your drop shipping company and see if they have any options for you in regards to an ecommerce script. If not, then search on Google for a great script. Type in this keyword “your_drop_shipping_company_name ecommerce template.”

Step 2: Install Your New Store

When installing your script and getting your store set up, you will want to include a few store policies on your website:

1. Privacy Policy – (Tells your customers you won’t use their information beyond the use of the transaction)

2. Returns Policy

3. Acceptable Use Policy – How to appropriately use the store (no abuse basically)

The website script will usually guide you through the process; however, writing one can be difficult, search on Google “how to write blank policy.” Tons of results will come up. Next, if you are using Zencart, you will want to install an add-on called Google Base (Froogle) Feeder. This will get your products listed on Google shopping tab! This is a great tool for success, and within a few days you could be making quite a few sales!

Step 3: Make More Money!

Ecommerce websites are a great way to earn money not only by selling your own products, but selling someone else’s as well. So after you get your website up and running and you’re getting good traffic from Google Base, then it’s time to join an affiliate program such as Commission Junction. Find a good affiliate program to join, preferably a program that has products similar to yours, and place their banners on your website! This will help generate even more money for your fantastic website!
