How to start a classified ads website, a classified ads website is a great website that kind of acts like a phone book, it gives you ads about whatever you are searching for, for free. The user simply types in a few keywords on what he or she is looking for and is subjected to money making ads along their visit to the website. This type of website is easy to run, but does require quite a bit of work to get started, as well as daily upkeep once it gets going. But enough about the website let me show you how to get started:

Step 1: Register a Domain, Get Website Hosting, and a Script!

Register a domain from your favorite domain registrar (Your Domain Registration Company Here). Try to find a domain with one of these keywords: Ads, Classified, or a keyword from your local region (UK or Illinois). Next, you will need good website hosting I suggest using HostMonster.com. HostMonster.com will give you fantastic service, excellent support, and almost 100% uptime! Next, you will need a script, I recommend using a free script like Sepcity’s Classified Ads script. It’s a great script, takes a bit to get used to, and it’s a bit difficult to customize, but it’s free!

Step 2: Promote Your Classified Ads Website!

Promoting your classified ads website will be very similar to pretty much every other website I’ve talked about, it will be link building, promoting in webmaster forums, posting uniquely written article about your website to a few article directories, doing a press release, and using social bookmarking. So to start out, after your website is 100% up and looks just how you want it to look, start out by submitting to directories to get back links and get a small bit of traffic as well, next I suggest using Google Adwords to target some of your local traffic searching for free classified ads. Then write an article and put it on the website to get some fresh content out, and also submit that article to at least 10 article directories. After that, I suggest doing some social bookmarking and even a press release with prweb.com. After that you should be sitting very pretty, and your website should be seeing some great traffic!

Step 3: Make Money with Your Website!

To make money with your website, you will need to do one thing, sell ads. When users sign up to get their ads posted, offer them a chance to get a “featured listing” and charge a few dollars every month! Also, I recommend selling banner ads and text link ads as well! However, to start out I would recommend using Google Adsense to get started as you probably won’t sell too much of your ad inventory to start out with, and this will give you a great start on a fantastic website!
