How To Start A Successful Auction Website

Starting an auction website can be very difficult, especially if you don’t know how to properly market the website! The biggest problem every auction website has to overcome is getting a balance of buyers and sellers. If you don’t have this, especially for new auction websites, the owner might have to step in to help move the process along, by any means necessisary. This may include adding rules and regulations, selling some products on the website yourself to keep buyers, or even bidding on some of the items on the website to help out the sellers. Anything is possible, and that is why starting a successful auction website can be very difficult.

Step 1: Domain, Website Hosting, and a Script.

Go register your domain with your favorite domain registrar (Your Domain Registrar Company Here), try to register a domain with the keyword “Auction” in the domain name. Next you will need great and reliable website hosting, as always I recommend using HostMonster.com. They have great service, fast servers, and are very reliable! Now you will need to find a good auction script! I suggest using PHP Auction, this is a very good script, it’s very easy to use, and looks very professional! Now you have your website all setup with hosting and a great domain name!

Step 2: Promote, market, and advertise like crazy!

This is the hardest step; you have to get your websites name out there! You have to get people interested enough to come and sell and buy stuff! I suggest you start by selling as many products as you can, just get them listed on your website! So you will start with a good buyer base, then you can focus on getting a good seller base as well. Once you have at least 10 products for sale on your website (I recommend getting over 100 different products listed, the more the better), then you will need to start a marketing campaign. Try to direct your advertisements to the people around your country, this will help reduce shipping costs as well as direct your advertisements to hit a denser targeted demographic rather than showing all around the world. To do this I recommend using Adbrite, they have very cheap and reliable advertising available, and make sure you have over $1,000 to throw into this, as you will need it! Next, I suggest using a much lesser known tactic to get very targeted buyers and sellers. Use eBay.com! Seriously! I suggest advertising on eBay using classified ads for the products that you are putting up to be bid on, on your website! This will attract people who are interested in buying the product to your website and will possibly bid on the item on your website, this will create competition, something that the buyers will like, when they see people are bidding on your items it will drive them to sell products on your website as well!

Step 3: SEO and Get Ranked on Google.

The best way to do this is to build tons and tons of links! So I suggest hiring a few freelancers for cheap! Try getafreelancer.com and odesk.com, hire freelancers for about $0.10 per link, and hire them to do about 200 to 500 at a time, this will get you tons and tons of links and will get them fast. This is what you want, it will build back links which will point Google to your website to be indexed faster and faster and will make Google think your website is very popular therefore increasing your rank on Google search!

Simple three steps, but don’t get me wrong this type of website is perhaps one of the hardest to get started, but once it does it will practically promote itself! I highly recommend any experienced webmaster with a budget of about $3,000 to $10,000 to give it a try!
