How To Sell Websites Successfully

Selling websites is quite a bit like working a commission-pay based job, for the very simple reason that, you only make money after a sale. You work hard to make the website look good, and then you ship it off to market and highlight its best features to every prospective buyer! Selling websites can be pretty easy, very lucrative, and even fun! Now, I will be the first to admit that this doesn’t always work out, as I said it’s like a commission based job, but in my professional opinion, if you do this right, the monetary rewards can be tremendous. For example, a moderately successful, run of the mill, turnkey website can fetch around three months income, often times up to a year’s income! Now, the single biggest trend I have noticed in the website buying and selling market is that good, and unique content websites are high in demand, with very low supply. The latest example of this was a 17 year old who was selling his SEO (Search Engine Optimization) blog. He had written it with WordPress and had only 14 posts on the website. The blog looked only so-so, and it wasn’t SEO’ed properly. It still went for $1,000 on sitepoint.com. That’s about $70 per post! Okay, now that you have an idea of the industry and how lucrative it can be, let me show you the simple steps to achieve a decent income from selling websites:

Step 1: Website and Website Hosting

This step is quite simple; I suggest buying an entire website, as cheap as you can. Go on eBay.com, they usually have some very cheap websites you can buy, just type in a keyword like “turnkey website” or whatever type of website you want! Try to find one under $10, as this is totally attainable! Also, try to find a website that you are actually interested in, for example if you hate sports, don’t pick a ticketmaster.com affiliate website that sells basketball tickets! You will hate working on the website and your performance will suffer and your wallet in turn. Next, find a website hosting company, I recommend using HostMonster.com; they have great service, fast servers, and almost 100% server uptime! Also, if you pay for a year worth of hosting you can simply pass on the months you don’t use to your customer! This is a great incentive to website buyers to purchase your website!

Step 2: Make Your Website Worth Buying!

You can make your website attractive to buyers by improving statistics on your website! Buy some cheap traffic (try some of these PTC websites). This traffic will help improve your Alexa.com Traffic Ranking! Also, to validate the traffic I recommend putting a widget on your website from Alexa.com (Click Here for Your Website Traffic Widget). Next, we need to increase your Google Page Rank, to do this you will need to submit your website to a bunch of high page ranked directories, dmoz.org should be the first one you submit to, it’s a great Google PR 9 directory, and best of all, its FREE! Now, if your website sells some kind of product or service, you will want to start posting on forums relating to the product you sell. For example, if your website is an affiliate of ticketmaster.com and so your website sells baseball tickets for them, you will want to find about 5 to 10 forums and post weekly on those forums telling member about your website, this will bring tons of prospective clients to your website!

Step 3: How To Sell Successfully!

Selling your website isn’t about lying your way to a deal. It’s about stretching the truth. Never lie about your website, this will tarnish your reputation and will ruin future sales. I should also explain what I mean by stretching the truth, I am not telling you to lie, I am not telling you to make your clients believe you are selling them a timeshare in Florida when in reality it’s an igloo in Alaska, but enough about my weekend. . . Ha, Ha… Anyway, what I mean by stretching the truth is if your website gets only 37 visits a day, you have two choices, you can ether find a time in the day where say 21 of those 37 came in all within one hour and run with that saying “Well Over 20 Clients Per Hour!” Which sounds MUCH better than, “37 visitors per day.” Or, you can talk about how 37 clients can turn into 37 sales so easily and that a monkey can run this website or some other crazy marketing talk where it promotes the, “good feeling,” that people love so much. Do this right and people will be begging for your moderately so-so websites, because they aren’t so-so, they are primo, one-of-a-kind cash-churning machines of websites!!!!

Well that’s just it! An easy three steps you could knock out before lunch (depending on what time you started… it should really only take up to three hours, under one if you’re a pro).
