How To Make A Successful Directory Website

Starting a directory website is a great way to help out the online community, earn money while only investing a few minutes daily, and it’s a great way to learn how to webmaster so you can move on to bigger and better website ventures! Making your directory successful is all about your Google Page Rank; this rank is determined by Google and basically shows how many websites your directory is linked to from other websites. The more websites linking to your directory the higher the page rank. So link building and back link building is very, very important when starting a successful directory. So with a bit of money and some hard work, you can be on your way to owning a very successful directory website!

Step 1: Register a Domain, Get Website Hosting, and Get a Script.

Register a domain with your favorite domain registrar (or try: GoDaddy.com). Try to find a domain with the keyword “directory” in it; this will improve your SEO (Search Engine Optimization) scores with that keyword in your URL. Next, get reliable website hosting, I recommend using HostMonster.com, they have great service, fast servers, and are extremely reliable! Finally get a good, free, and error free directory script; I recommend using Free Directory Script. This script is PHP based, it has an automated reciprocal link checker, no SQL database needed, its very user friendly, and is SEO friendly!

Step 2: Promote your Directory

Here is what you want to do in a nutshell:

1. Link building

2. Social bookmarking

3. Hanging around your fellow directory webmasters

4. Submitting to directorycritic.com and info.vilesilencer.com

So, one, link building, there are many, many tools you can use to help you with this, as it is extremely boring. Or you can do what I normally do, with $100 you can hire someone to submit your website to 1,000 directories using either getafreelancer.com or odesk.com, I prefer Odesk.com. Next, number two, do some social bookmarking, to read into this option more please visit this website: webtrends.about.com. After step two, I suggest that you sign up for a few webmaster forums and post a link to your directory in three webmaster forums: DigitalPoint, v7n.com, and directoryowners.com. Finally, last, but not least, submit your directories to the two websites I listed above, those will bring you tons of submissions every month.
